Our journey started in February when we purchased a Flagstaff E-Pro 19BH travel trailer. We decided to try to see as many state parks as we could before we depart Alabama and move to Missouri. Our first visit was to Wind Creek State Park.
The Park
Wind Creek State Park is large. It has over 568 campsites including 157 waterfront sites and 268 sites with sewer hookups. It is a beautiful state park on Lake Martin, the largest lake in Alabama.

The Spot
Our spot was C101, which was right by the lake and gave us amazing views for sunrise and sunset! The site was also near the bathrooms and a park for the kids — an incredible location.
The Camping
This was our first state park trip with our camper! While it was March in Alabama, it was cold! The heater in our trailer, the Flagstaff E-Pro 19BH, worked fantastic and all systems functioned correctly. While the camper is compact for our family of four and our Airedale Terrier, I would not change a thing right now. I am maneuvering well in its tiny “kitchen.” I made chili, spaghetti and tacos. The stove and oven worked whiteout a hitch, and once I figured out I should open the window and turn the fan on to keep the heat out (Newb moment), everything went smoothly.
The Trails
Wind Creek State Park is also home to numerous trails including the Alabama Reunion Trail. The trails vary from easy to moderate difficulty. Just be careful. We found that trails in Alabama are usually not well marked. For example, a green or blue trail can turn to a black trail without notice. What was intended to be a 3-mile stroll could turn into 9 miles of walking. Don’t ask!
We spent 3-days at this campground, and we loved every minute! Every chance we get to spend a weekend in our camper, in nature, as a family … we take it! Some would call us weekend warriors, but no matter what you call us or how often you go … just go and make memories.
